After releasing a poster last week, Columbia Pictures has released the first trailer of ‘The Social Network’, its upcoming movie capturing the creation of Facebook. As reported earlier, the movie is partially based on the book ‘The Accidental Billionaires’ and chronicles the birth of world’s biggest social network in a Harvard dorm room by a student called Mark Zuckerberg.
Jesse Eisenberg plays Zuckerberg in the movie and you can hear him (and some other characters) talking in the trailer as some weird images start taking shape of his face. The film is reported to capture the early buzz around the newly created social network which got 22000 hits in its first 24 hours after going public.
It’s hard to believe that Facebook is just 6 years old as it has become a major part of our social and work lives and is continuously breaking new grounds in keeping the world connected. While some may question the importance given to social media and even more the need of a movie based on it, the truth is that the rise of social media is as big a historical phenomenon as the reach of the internet to common people in the mid 90s and the introduction of the personal computers. It’s time to start looking back and writing history.
