It is confirmed that the iPhone 4 pre-orders have broken all previous records and Apple is taking a break from taking more orders for 24 hours. The official figures revealed by Apple and AT&T are staggering as more than 600,000 orders were received in total for the new iPhone. Apple says that it’ll resume taking orders soon but those orders won’t be fulfilled on June 24th as all existing devices are already booked. The next batch of the eagerly awaited smartphone will be delivered to consumers on July 2nd.
Apple’s official announcement says:
Yesterday Apple and its carrier partners took pre-orders for more than 600,000 of Apple’s new iPhone 4. It was the largest number of pre-orders Apple has ever taken in a single day and was far higher than we anticipated, resulting in many order and approval system malfunctions. Many customers were turned away or abandoned the process in frustration. We apologize to everyone who encountered difficulties, and hope that they will try again or visit an Apple or carrier store once the iPhone 4 is in stock.
It was also revealed that the orders were 10 times higher than that of the iPhone 3GS sales. Online retailers across the US and UK experienced massive traffic yesterday causing system jamming and orders not going through for countless users.
