Chrome Versus Lightning – A Speed Test Video

by Ferman Aziz

You should not believe in facts until and unless you get prove of it. That’s what Google wants to do, instead of telling us that how fast Google Chrome is, they show us Rube Goldberg-ian video to prove it.

This is an awesome video to watch but before showing it, check what Google has to say about the video and equipment used.

These speed tests were filmed at actual web page rendering times. If you’re interested in the technical details, read on!

Equipment used:

– Computer: MacBook Pro laptop with Windows installed
– Monitor – 24″ Asus: We had to replace the standard fluorescent backlight with very large tungsten fixtures to funnel in more light to capture the screen. In addition, we flipped the monitor 180 degrees to eliminate a shadow from the driver board and set the system preferences on the computer to rotate 180 degrees. No special software was used in this process.
– 15Mbps Internet connection.
– Camera: Phantom v640 High Speed Camera at 1920 x 1080, films up to 2700 fps

Would love to see what kind of connection they were using or how close they were to the receiving web page. I’m still waiting for the day that Chrome can a) Load faster (as in program loading time) than firefox on my gaming PC b) Play nicely with flash so I don’t have to resort to watching youtube or ebaumsworld on firefox c) not take a ridiculous amount of memory and slow down lower-end PC’s such as the ones my clients bring me

Chrome is, like any browser, far better than Internet Explorer in terms of execution speed and web load time, but it still pales in comparios to Firefox when it comes to performance.

However, I would stand behind chrome on it’s usability and lack (good thing) of pestering updates.

Um chrome is WAY faster the Firefox in loading the app itself to loading a webpage. I have three pcs in my house right now and Chrome is faster on all three. So it has to do something with your system.

I still use Firefox though because I can’t have stumbleupon on Chrome yet.
