Facebook creator and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is finally addressing users’ complaints and uproar over the recently updated privacy settings and controls of the social networking site. In a ‘Washington Post’ column on Monday , Zuckerberg admits that users all over the world are finding it hard to navigate through the new complicated privacy settings. He promises to rectify the problem in the near future with simpler and easy to use settings. The column followed after Zuckerberg allowed reprinting of a private email to Robert Scoble which carries statements like
We’ve made a bunch of mistakes” and ” I want to make sure we get this stuff right this time.
In the column he outlines the changes that disgruntled users can expect in the coming weeks.
We have heard the feedback. There needs to be a simpler way to control your information. In the coming weeks, we will add privacy controls that are much simpler to use. We will also give you an easy way to turn off all third-party services. We are working hard to make these changes available as soon as possible. We hope you’ll be pleased with the result of our work and, as always, we’ll be eager to get your feedback.
Comments started pouring in from users and ‘The Washington post’ readers with some appreciating and welcoming the changes announced while others criticised Zuckerberg’s words as condescending. However, it’s a welcome acknowledgement from Facebook as it enjoys over 400 million users world wide and can’t afford to ignore their concerns over their personal content’s security and privacy.
