Mozilla Releases First Beta for FireFox 4

Mozilla has been teasing with the news of a FireFox update for about a year now and it took the first step today in actually bringing FireFox 4 to users around the world. The first Beta version of the new Firefox is available now and even though the official launch won’t be till the end of the year and a few more beta versions will be released before that, the first is looking pretty good.

The browser is getting a major upgrade with advanced HTML 5 support, hardware-accelerated HD video, WebSockets and enhanced add-on support via Jetpack. This is just the beginning though. Mozilla released a feature spotlight listing all the goodies it is offering in the new version and it’s enough to give Chrome and Safari a run for their money. You are free to download and try the new version but don’t be disheartened if it crashes and freezes as the purpose of a beta version is to test and catch all the short comings and get the kinks out before releasing the actual product.
