There’s another spate of Facebook Scams going viral on the social network today and this time they’re spreading through apparently shocking video links. The links appear in users’ status updates with attention grabbing descriptions and if you click on the link, you’ll be asked to take a number of surveys which is nothing but a ploy to extol your personal information and data.
The links may appear in the status updates and news feeds of your trusted friends which may lead you to click on the link because you trust the person but that means that he/she has fallen for the scam already. The most widely spread ones today claim to be carrying shocking footage e.g.
I am shocked!!! I’m NEVER texting AGAIN since I found this out. Video here: http://bit.ly/c4SDyh – Worldwide scandal!
Another one that is actually a worm disguising as a video link promises showing the video of a school teacher who almost killed a young boy.
The wise course of action is of course not clicking on any video links unless you’re sure of its authenticity and if you fall for one of the scam links, just don’t fill in any personal details and remove the faulty app(s) from your profile and also delete the status update from your news feed.
You can also check out the video below to fully understand the attack and how to avoid it.
