iPhone enthusiasts can get a taste of its massively updated Operating System 2 days in advance as Apple has just launched the iOS 4 today. Available as a free upgrade, the OS is compatible with iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS models, as well as second and third generation iPod touches. Multitasking will only work with the iPhone 3GS and third-generation iPod touch, however.
All those wanting to update their devices should make sure that they have iTunes 9.2 installed (as iOS 4 requires it) and to plug their iPhone into iTunes also making sure that they have a full backup. Bringing about 1500 changes or additions to the API, some major highlights of the iOS 4 include multitasking and easier switching between apps, folders to better organise your data, iBooks like on the iPad, a highly improved camera with tap to focus facility and 5 x digital zoom, Bluetooth keyboard support, better spell check, game centre, digital wallpapers and much more.
Check out the features of iOS4 here.
